Composite Solutions for Automotive Applications
GRP and fibreglass are used in automotive applications where weight, corrosion resistance, durability and finish all matter.
Typical parts include body panels, hoods, spoilers, bumpers, trailer bodies and protective housings.
Quantum supports work from individual fibreglass car body panels to larger composite assemblies. |

Case Examples & Typical Automotive Use Cases
Lightweight Fibreglass Bodies for Cars and Bikes
Whilst Quantum have supplied to some well-known names in the automotive and kit car industries, nothing tells the story better than the beauty of the Ultima RS sports car.
The Ultima RS sports car body is still generally recognised to be one of the finest gelcoat finishes in the GRP world.
With a dedicated production cell in the factory, some of the original moulds from the 1990s are still in use today. |
Fibreglass Shells for Trailers
One piece, two piece or a complex GRP assembly, Quantum have the skills and knowledge to make a concept into reality.
The largest clamshell parts used for enclosed trailers are nearly 5 metres long and made in a single piece using a closed mould RTM process – believed to be the biggest RTM part in the UK.
The advantages of using a closed mould process include part to part consistency, and a higher quality internal finish. |
Features such as hinged doors, catches, canopies, and light mounting points are all integrated into the design.
A semi-transparent roof moulding allows light to flood in, even when the doors are closed.
GRP is versatile for adding features, from fixing points to extra localised rigidity and all helps to give the professional quality finish needed, even if the eyes are more often focussed on the car interior. |
An Excellent Material for Automotive Parts
For many automotive applications, GRP offers strong, durable and lightweight material qualities and good freedom of design, helping build some of the most aerodynamic vehicles in production.
GRP can reduce part weight while supporting complex shapes, local reinforcement and a high quality surface finish. That makes it a strong option for specialist vehicles and low-to-medium volume production. |

Our Automotive Manufacturing Capabilities
Quantum brings together moulding, laminating, trimming, assembly and finishing in one production flow. We support this with in-house Tooling, Engineering and wider manufacturing planning, helping manage tolerances, surface quality and repeatability from first-off parts to ongoing supply.
Quantum combines automotive experience with end-to-end composite manufacture. In-house support, proven moulding knowledge and strong finishing standards help shorten development time and support more consistent output.
Our focus is on parts that fit properly, look right and work in production. |
Materials, Process & Quality Considerations
Material and process choices depend on where the part sits on the vehicle and what it needs to do.
Lay-up method, reinforcement, core materials and finish specification all affect weight, stiffness and appearance.
We plan the fit, cosmetic standard and repeatability from the start to suit the demands of the finished component. |

Discuss Automotive Project Requirements
Early discussion helps define the right method, finish level and production route before costs or lead times drift.
Whether the project is a new fibreglass car body, replacement panels or an existing part moving supplier, contact us to discuss the requirement. |
