A Smooth Production Pathway
The manufacturing process has many stages, so projects require structured support. This reduces risks for your development and production runs, saving you time and money.
The end products’ quality comes down to tooling, layup control, cure timing, and repeatability, especially when the composites are hand laid.
We collaborate with customers to make sure the tooling is right first time, with the material choices optimised for the part specification. We manage change control and project handovers between teams, meaning you’ll be informed and in control from start to finish.

What Our Support Covers
MRP and factory planning
Running an efficient factory which delivers parts on time, to the correct specification and at the right price requires careful planning.
Using Manufacture Resource Planning software (MRP), which covers every critical element from order placement, through to raw materials planning and ordering is essential in helping factory planning and work optimisation.
Checks and balances are in place to assure all elements of the process from the point of customer order, through part and process specification, procurement, manufacturing, packaging and despatch.
KPIs are used throughout the business to help drive efficiency and ensure customers’ needs are met. |

Project Management for GRP fabrication
We believe in considering all aspects of a project at the earliest stages. This makes sure that we can fully support a customer, rather than simply saying “Yes!”
If we do not feel we can meet your requirements, we will be open about this and recommend other options where possible. Sometimes that may mean many questions. In our experience ‘upfront loading’ is a key success factor, especially in more complex projects.
You’ll have a clear point of contact and clear handovers between design, engineering, tooling, and manufacturing.
Quantum routinely works on complex, multi-faceted projects. We collaborate with customers on planning to agree timelines and deadlines, using well-established planning tools and techniques. This includes internal planning, customer project meetings and reviews, and discussions with our suppliers and subcontractors when needed. |
Materials selection and supply chain resilience
Quantum works with a number of leading material suppliers to meet the exacting requirements of the parts, gaining access to excellent technical support, as well as new innovations and developments.
Where possible, Quantum have a minimum of two and usually three approved material options for the main materials used in production. This provides confidence that production won’t stop because one of our suppliers cannot source or deliver material.
We have a robust testing and approval process for new key materials, and monitor supplier performance routinely. This monitoring is supported by external auditing during our regular ISO 9001 audits.
Where appropriate, we’ll discuss recycled-content routes such as recycled PET resins or foam, improving your product sustainability. |

Tooling strategy and repeatability
Our tooling approach follows a simple rule: “Polish one mould, not a thousand parts.” By involving Quantum at the early stages of your project, you’ll benefit from the best possible mould, driving the quality of your parts.
More on Tooling
Engineering support that protects quality and flow
On-site engineers and a fabrication workshop help respond quickly, even when design changes happen. Our engineering team create custom frames, jigs, and supports to improve access and handling. These small changes make a big difference to part quality.
Engineering Support |
Supporting Manufacturing from Design to Delivery
Manufacturing support is strongest when engineering, tooling, and production are connected from day one. Our support includes:
- Design-for-manufacture input, such as release angles and split line positioning, to protect repeatability and cost
- Production setup supported by MRP planning, checks, and KPI-driven control
- Feedback loops that improve outcomes over time, such as process controls and additional care points

When Manufacturing Support Is Most Valuable
Structured support can streamline production, save time and reduce costs overall. It is particularly effective for:
- New product introductions, when it is the first time the part has been industrialised
- Customers with their first-time GRP/fibreglass projects, needing to understand what can be achieved
- Multi-part assemblies where repeatability matters
- Tight deadlines or demanding specifications, such as UV or weather resistance, or safety-driven requirements
- Scaling from prototype or first-off to repeat production volumes
|
Manufacturing Support vs Standard Manufacturing
Manufacturing is the production itself, including lamination, trimming, assembly, finishing, quality inspection and packing.
Support services manage the system that makes production consistent. It includes planning, design optimisation, tooling strategy, materials resilience, engineering aids, and project management.
Having both services under one roof minimises handovers and speeds up decision-making when changes occur. It also maintains clear responsibility, which is crucial when deadlines and specifications are tight. |
